They're OK if you really can't accomodate anything larger, but overall I'd say they're a waste of money. They lack clarity and frequency response is rather limited, thanks to the 3.5" driver. I used them for my back surround speakers, but not for long. They just weren't up to the task.
For years I've been suffering as I tried to listen to music through cheap, self-powered computer speakers. This was about it. With my setup I have room for a re-purposed Technics 100W receiver, but no good place for speakers, which really have to fit up on the windowsill. So I went looking for something smaller, but still high quality, for under $75.
It's an acoustic suspension design (not ported), so it's not particularly efficient. Fortunately, it's working out very well. Decent bass. I'd suggest 50W per channel if you want solid bass. Really better than I'd expected for the size. Nothing I tried was much good.
Smooth, full sound. Overall, I'm much happier now, whether listening to local FM, Internet radio or I-tunes. My little Polk Audio bookshelfs -- an even better value -- just don't fit. Well, there ain't much.
I may move them to the rear later because they are quite small but they certainly perform well for $50. I bought these speakers for the front channels of a 3.1 theater system.
I use them for watching TV and movies. I'm pleased with the speakers performance for the price. The size is perfect for my stands.
I had one BIC speaker (SV52SIB) fail, and BIC's customer support took care of it by sending me a replacement speaker which I was able to replace myself. The sound is good and are small enough to be unobtrusive. The remaining home theater speakers are BIC as well and all sound great. Excellent product, but Amazon has over priced it at $149. And BIC is very reachable and willing to answer pre-sale questions. 06/2009 - The price at Amazon is much better now. Look elsewhere for better pricing. I've been using a pair for the back channels in a 5.1 home theater setup (all the speakers are BIC).
